Core Process Psychotherapy and Yoga Therapy - Heather Mason

Core Process Psychotherapy is an in depth talking therapy developed by Maura and Franklyn Sills at the Karuna Institute in Devon, England. This specialized form of psychotherapy is influenced by Buddhism and the exploration and mindfulness inherent within.

The fundamental assumption of this therapy is that our inherent nature is sane and healthy and although it is never lost, it is obscured by our life conditions. Therefore, the therapist does not try to look for “what is wrong with you” but to see you and your experience as a whole with absolute trust in your true nature, which is brilliantly sane.

Heather's yoga therapy is on her extensive training in psychotherapy, yoga therapy, mindfulness-based practice and recent studies in psychobiology. Through this combined approach Heather is able to work with both the mind and body meeting both the psychological and physiological aspects of mental-health through a process of mutual cure.

Heather holds an MA in Buddhist Studies from SOAS University London, and is presently completing a three year MA in Clinical Buddhist-Based Psychotherapy. Her educational journey is an accompaniment to a three year meditative and yogic journey in South East Asia where she resided in Buddhist monasteries and learned how to transcend her own emotional suffering.  Heather has been teaching yoga since 2001 and is also a qualified yoga therapist. Heather is also a Lifeforce practitioner having who trained with Amy Weintraub in the United States for Yoga for Depression.  She has also done 100 hrs of Anusara teacher training in Taiwan.

Additionally, Heather is the only person in the UK to have trained extensively with the Boston Trauma Center Massachusetts on how to use yoga as a complementary treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD and is about to undertake an MSc in the Psychobiology of Stress at Roehampton University to conduct research on how Yoga can positively influence the brain.
